They can provide information, advice and guidance, training and tailor made expeditions for young or adult groups or individuals.
Blue Sky Expeditions value the simplicity of being in the outdoors, enjoying the natural landscape around us. Our aim is to share this freedom & experience with others through tailored support, ensuring we leave the environment as it was found, for others to enjoy time and time again.
The Blue Sky Expedition leaders are fully qualified and come with a wealth of experience to make your adventure come to life. Having established the company in 2013 Hannah and Jonathan have been developing the company whilst offering freelance work for expeditions and mountain experience days.
In 2005 after working in the car industry for 5 years Jonathan realised he needed a serious change of scenery! Jonathan had been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) since 2001, completing his own Gold award in 2002 and then volunteering as an Expedition leader with Hounslow Youth Service until 2005.
This inspired him to move to a full time Youth Worker role working for the London Borough of Hillingdon where he managed the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Jonathan also had overall responsibility for the boroughs Adventure Activities Licence (AALS) and delivery of the Council Outdoors Activity Program every summer holidays.
In 2014 Jonathan felt it was time to move on and up and joined the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award as an Operations Officer in the South East.
Since completing his Gold DofE Jonathan has continued his passion for mountaineering by trekking in the Swiss and French Alps, the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and travelled to the Himalaya in 2011 to climb Stok Kangri. Jonathan enjoys climbing and running in his spare time completing the Midnight Sun Marathon in 2014 and Loch Ness in 2016.
To celebrate 60 years of the DofE Jonathan embarked on his own Diamond Challenge in August 2016 when he cycled from the Headquarters of the DofE in Windsor, Surrey to the foot of Mnt Snowdon in North Wales. Once there he then climbed Snowdon before finishing his challenge at the Pen-Y-Gwryd Hotel.
After completing a BA (Hons) in Social Anthropology and Criminology Hannah embarked on a few years of seasonal work in France as an outdoor instructor/ hostie and travelling in Europe. Returning to the UK in 2005 Hannah started working as a full time Area Youth Officer alongside completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Youth and Community Work at Brunel University for London Borough of Hillingdon.
Over these 9 years Hannah managed large scale youth events and summer programmes, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Bronze, Silver and Gold Expeditions in the UK and overseas (South Africa and Morocco). Hannah has also led on youth work training/volunteering programmes with young people at risk of social and economic exclusion and headed the Borough’s Town Twinning Youth Exchange with Germany and France.
Hannah has also worked for Buckinghamshire County Council as their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition Advisor and as a freelance instructor.
Hannah is a keen traveller and has ventured to many continents across the world, some of her favourites places being the Himalaya, Asia and New Zealand. In the winter months Hannah likes to travel to Switzerland to enjoy her other passion, snowboarding.
